A Knitting Bunny!

A strange scene caused me to pause, take a second glance, and then chuckle. Right there on the hall couch was a long-eared rabbit, holding knitting needles and a blue scarf. The yarn trailed to the floor, and a cup of coffee rested at her side. Wow! What a bunny! She can knit and sip a warm beverage at the same time.

Of course, you know this was a stuffed hare, but it was so cute. I silently thanked the owner for arranging a moment of humor for me at the end of a busy day. Some people are so clever, thoughtful, and willing to go the second mile to help a friend or bring a smile to many faces as they stroll by on their way to the elevator.

As we approach this time of celebrating the resurrection of Christ, I pause and reflect. Reflecting, we each remember that three days earlier, the crowd surrounding the cross was shedding tears. As Mary, the weeping mother, watched her son hanging on the cross, grief filled her heart. Probably the disciples reached out to her, with words of comfort. No moments of humor and joy there.

After the Sabbath, Mary and some other women returned with heavy parts, to visit the tomb. As they waited, there was a violent earthquake, and an angel of the Lord came down and rolled back the stone and sat on it. Hum! What next?

The guards were so afraid of the angel that they became like dead men. No laughing or smiles from those fellows. Those guys were just plain scared.

So where does the time of smiles arrive in this story? I’m certain my readers remember. The angel announced that the person for whom they were looking was not there. They should not be afraid, however, as He was risen from the dead.

Now the smiles, giggles, and joy fill our story, as this group of ladies dash off to find the disciples. Probably more smiles and feelings of happiness filled the air, as hugs were exchanged and maybe even a few tears of joy trickled down the face or two of our weary disciples.

Enjoy my rabbit story. Chuckle, but then remember the real reason for the season — Christ’s resurrection from the tomb.

Won’t you share the Biblical account found in Matthew 27 and 28 with others? Perhaps a neighbor, grandchild, or coworker will appreciate some “Good News,” resulting in another smile or two.

Happy Easter to each of you
